A System for Investing in NBA Basketball Playoff Players Basketball Cards

At the time of this writing it is Saturday morning May 5th 2024.

If you are a regular reader of this website, you know my goal is to put together a sports card investment course for entrepreneur minded people.  Even those that don’t follow sports and know nothing about sports cards.

I have built my entire entrepreneurial career around systems.

On this website I document and share the systems I believe anyone can use to create profits investing in sports cards.

These are systems that I will use for my investment journey.  Because with cards, the right systems will always work. It doesn’ t matter if you are talking about a $1.00 card or a $1,000 dollar card.

I am averaging 3 hours a day in educational time, reading articles, blogs and other research as I am putting these systems together.

At this point, I am doing this primarily for myself, from time to time I share them for the readers of our website here or publish them in our members area which at the moment is not open or accessible to anyone accept myself and a few friends and family members, just to validate the systems.

At the present time we are putting together short-term profit systems or strategies around the NBA play offs.

I have to admit, I have paid more attention to the NBA playoffs this year than I have the previous 10 years combined.

At this place and time on my journey, I think I am most fascinated by how the market responds positively or negatively to the last game a player played in the play offs.

With seemingly no attention to the long-term upside potential of that player.

Minnasota wins the first two games of series against Denver and virtually all of the Minnesota players cards bump up in price and the star of the first two games, Anthony Edwards cards explode in price.

They lose the next two and all the prices dropped, Anthony Edwards by nearly 30%.

They win the next game, and prices bump up again.

The Timberwolves end up winning the series in 7 games and during this time Edwards cards have doubled, Carl Anthony Towns cards have increased 30%.

So yes, at the time of this article, it would have been possible to invest fifty dollars or five thousand dollars in Anthony Edwards cards at the beginning of the play offs and turned that $50 investment into $100 or your $5,000 investment into $10,000 in less than a couple of weeks.

All of this has happened in a span of 1 seven game series.

The Timberwolves are still in the play offs, and they may end up winning it all!  If they continue to move forward what will Anthony Edwards and Carl Anthony Towns cards do?

I expect them to continue to bump up, the question is how high?

Personally I have already taken profits with the few cards I had.  My goal next year will be to load up on top players from each team, before the Play offs!

Seeing cards increase in price 20%, 30%, 50% even 100% as Edwards has done, over a two week span in all reality, makes no sense to me.

I find this fascinating.  My personal feelings are, regarding the big picture of card investing it is ridiculous to have these type of swings, but I am understanding this is the norm in the market today.

I learned a long time ago, you don’t fight the way it is, just learn to work with the way it is.

My opinion doesn’t matter, the numbers are the numbers.

Not just for basketball, but based upon what I am reading and seeing, these impulses are moving all sports cards in every market around tournament time.

Over the past 10 years as I have very passively invested in sports cards, I would always buy the stars of the two Super Bowl or World Series Teams prior to the Super Bowl or World Series.

I have done very well with this simplistic investment strategy. I first discovered Patrick Holmes after watching him play in his first Super Bowl in the 2019/20 Season. Immediately following the game, I jumped on eBay and purchased this car
d. for a around $175.00. At the time of this writing, this card is selling between $1,000 – $1,100. Not a bad ROI in less than 5 years!

However, now that I am all in on sports card investing, and have paid attention to this years NBA play offs I realize there are some great returns that can be made.

My goal is to systemize these  strategies that will work for all entrepreneurs.

Back in the day when my brother and I owned our sports card and memorabilia shop,  it was very simple. Does this player have the opportunity to reach the Hall of Fame at the end of their career?
If they do, buy their card!

That was really the only question, sports card investors had to ask themselves.  It was cut and dry.  But not in today’s market.

Obviously, entering the Hall of Fame plays an import part in the long-term investment potential of any players card in any sport.

But as with day trading stocks, and the crypto markets, volatility is GOOD!

I have proven to myself, that volatility is good in the crypto market.  Those of us that day trade stocks understand, It is easier to make money with a volatile stock than it is a stable one. I share these strategies and ideas on my website at www.CMGCrypto.com

The concept goes against, most people’s natural thought process, but it is just the way it is.

Most beginning investors, don’t want volatility, they just want to make an investment and watch it go up.

As I mentioned earlier, you have to have to learn to work with the way it is, not the way you wish it was.

So how will I approach sports card investing prior to next years draft and probably throughout the rest of my card investing journey?

Number one I will pay more attention to the regular season, and try to identify the TOP 2 PLAYERS ON EACH TEAM

Prior the play offs starting I will load up on the Top two players from the teams that are expected to reach the final Eight.

My goal will be to sell them all, by the time the final buzzer blows in the championship game.

Get in, get out and take my profits throughout the tournament.  The goal will be a 25% return over the two months.

I would be happy with that, and I think that is doable.

What about you?

How do you approach investing in cards during the NBA Play Offs?

What are your investment systems and strategies?

I would love to hear from you.

Until next time, enjoy the NBA play offs and continue to refine your investment strategies.
